Abstract
Extensive geotechnical investigations have been carried out in the buried St. Davids Gorge in Niagara Falls, Ontario, in connection with the Niagara River Hydroelectric Development. The existence of the buried gorge has been recognized since the 1840s, however, previous investigations have been hampered by difficult overburden conditions. The present investigations have served to define the buried gorge in the project area and to give a preliminary indication of its geological history. The gorge is believed to be up to 200 m deep with a complex sequence of glacial and periglacial deposits
