Abstract
This preliminary account of the biological and sedimentological environments of the coast of Labrador near Nain is largely qualitative. We have attempted to describe the major components which we observed during 15 days of field study in order to provide information for the environmental impact assessment currently being undertaken by Petro-Canada Exploration Inc. We have attempted to examine sites representative of the region, on the basis of air photograph examination and consideration of the coastal classification work by McLaren (1980). We do not claim that the plants and animals collected and named in this report form a complete list, although we believe the most important and most common, especially of the intertidal and supratidal, are documented. Our account of geomorphic processes is largely inferential, and the sedimentology is based on qualitiative observation augmented by analysis of 53 samples, a number hardly sufficient for such a varied landscape.
