Abstract
The purpose of this review is to discuss three broad topics in which arctic beach and near-shore sediments and sedimentary sequences have been of intense scientific interest. The topics are: 1. The history of marine transgressions and regressions against the shores of the various coastlines; 2. The glacial history of the Arctic Basin and the polar and subpolar seas of the northwestern North Atlantic and the northeastern North Atlantic and 3. The isostatic response of the earth to repeated loading and unloading by Pleistocene ice sheets.
