Abstract

Importance of Baffin--Labrador region is explained in terms of channelling through this area of mass flux of meltwater from Laurentide ice sheet and probable effects of this on thermohaline circulation of North Atlantic. Chronology of glaciation and deglaciation in region is summarized. Reference is made to recent marine records from Baffin shelf. Isotopic changes recorded in foraminiferal assemblages obtained from marine sediments indicate timing and possible magnitude of meltwater fluxes during period 14 to 11 ka BP
