Abstract
The Credit Valley Conservation Authority presents a summary of morphologic characteristics of water courses in southwestern Ontario to 1994. A program has been initiated for collecting and collating data on the natural tendencies of rivers and streams in southern Ontario. The objective of the program is to provide base-line information on the morphological characteristics of water courses to facilitate water course protection, design and rehabilitation efforts. A classification system offered by Rosgen (1985, 1994) has been adopted for the purposes of classifying the water courses in communities of similar morphologic condition known as stream types. The study area considered to date has been limited to southwestern Ontario but, is anticipated to be expanded to all regions of Ontario as future data is made available. Within this region a great deal of watercourse management activities occur in both urban and rural settings. Fluvial geomorphological data were collected on a number of streams. This information was compiled with existing historical hydraulic, hydrologic and geologic information collected by a variety of agencies.
