Abstract
The purpose of this document is to provide a series of reference tools in the form of relationship plots, stratified by stream type, which characterize the interrelationships of river morphology. It characterizes the morphological relationships of watercourses for the hydrographic region of southern Ontario by distinguishing the hydraulic, geometric, and sedimentological relationships of watercourses by stream types. Additional focus is placed on the assessment of relationships using the river taxonomy offered by Rosgen (1994). Parameters considered in determining those relationships include river slope, cross section, channel features, discharge, and sediment characteristics. The document also provides information on various field methods that can be employed in conducting fluvial geomorphologic investigations, including methods for discharge measurement, sediment sampling, and meander geometry measurements. The methods outlined provide sufficient detail so that the resulting information can be used to characterize the various relationships described in the rest of the document. Includes glossary.
