Abstract
Saint John, New Brunswick boasts a unique variety and diversity of geological and fossiliferous sites that span over a billion years, which have attracted geologists from around the world. Over the past two years, in association with the Community University Research Alliance (CURA), the documentation and interpretation of numerous localities in and around Saint John have been explored, to investigate the geoheritage of Saint John. The geological aspect of the CURA project is aimed at exploring the work done by some of the earlygeologists (George Matthew, Fred Hartt etc.), as well as uncover other interpretations of geological formations in Saint John, important to the city’s heritage. The Reversing Falls has long been an important tourist attraction. The examination into how the Reversing Falls was formed, and how Mi’kmaq and Maliseet legend interprets its formation is often overlooked and lost in current interpretations. The diverse geological research combined with interesting interpretive stories makes Saint John a city that continues to illustrate important geological investigation and heritage preservation.
