Abstract
The paper by Phillip Larson and Howard Mooers (2005) is an interesting attempt to document the glacial dispersal of one heavy mineral and then try to relate the mineral’s dispersal to their mathematical model for glacial indicator dispersal (Larson and Mooers 2004). The model then allows them to make conclusions about conditions at the base of the glacier, the erosion rates, and entrainment and deposition processes that occurred beneath the glacier. There is, however, information not apparently considered by the authorsthat could significantly alter several of the assumptions made and, therefore, some of the conclusions that were made in this paper. A few of my concerns, based, in part, on field observations in the area of Nipigon sills to the west of their study area, are mentioned for their consideration.
