Abstract

In September 1966 a programme of climatological investigations for Baffin Island was begun by Dr. R.G. Barry as a part of the Baffin Island Project of the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources. The basic aims of this work were: (i) to provide detailed information on the climate of the area and in particular the moisture sources for precipitation. (ii) to examine the synoptic climatology of climatic events considered to be significant for snow accumulation/ablation, (iii) on the basis of the results of (i) and (ii), to develop models of circulation patterns likely to favour glacierization of the area. ... This preliminary report contains the main results of the work completed under this project up to June 1968. The results are plotted on the maps and profiles which form the larger part of the report
