Abstract
Statistical computations for heavy-mineral analyses of tills from east-central Alberta and the bedrock materials from which they are derived show that these analyses alone are not a suitable criterion for differentiating surface tills, since a large portion of the heavy minerals are derived from the Canadian Shield. The surface till from east-central Alberta was found to contain 81± 8 per cent of Cretaceous bedrock materials. It was calculated that on the average about 95 per cent of heavy minerals in the tills came from the Canadian Shield and only about 2 per cent of the transparent heavy minerals in till were derived from Cretaceous deposits.
