Abstract
This study maps and reevaluates the Quaternary sediments of southeastern Vancouver Island, an area partially unmapped since 1913. Six 1:50,000 surficial geology maps of southeastern Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands were published through British Columbia's Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources. This surficial geologic information combined with three new [14]C dales, data from twelve key sections, and a review of previous research, are presented and used to develop a new composite stratigraphy for southeastern Vancouver Island and to interpret the Quaternary history and regional aggregate potential of the area. The proposed new composite stratigraphy identifies ten distinct stratigraphic units representing three glacial and three non-glacial periods between the Pre-Sangamon and the Holocene and potential aggregate sources are identified in the Cowichan Valley, the upper Goldstream Valley and at the Muir/Kirby Creek delta.
