Abstract
Observed profiles were analyzed using a dynmaic model describing the formation and of longshore bars in several locations: in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the sourh Pacific (Gold Coast area, Australia), and the North Sea (Sylt, Germany). The results show that the observed site-specific cycles of beach erosion and recovery result are related to quasi-periodical exchange of sediment between the offshore bars and the upper beach
