Abstract
New gold discoveries in the unglaciated area of central Yukon have relied heavily on soil geochemistry. To support mineral exploration, recent surficial mapping projects by the Yukon Geological Survey were focussed on the region that straddles the early Pleistocene glacial limit and the adjacent unglaciated terrain. Key drift prospecting problems that have been investigated include: understanding slope process effects on early Pleistocene glacial sediments, understanding the spatial distribution of loess on surface and in soil profiles, and examining the effect of periglacial processes on sediment mixing and colluviation.
