Abstract

Palaeo-climatic reconstructions for the Northern-Hemisphere during the Younger Dryas event have been attempted through dtatistical analyses of playnological assemblages. The Younger Dryas climate of Europe was marked by greater continentality. Latitudinal temperature gradients throughout North America and Eurasia were stronger than at present. The temperature changes indicated by this analysis are compatible with changes in global atmospheric circulation which would be induced by an interruption in the production of North Atlantic Deep Water.
