Abstract
A hydrogeological study is underway within the Chaudière River watershed, with the aim of improving knowledge of groundwater flow in order to develop effective management and protection strategies for the basin's water resources. Predominantly agricultural, up to 65% of the population relies on groundwater as the primary potable water source. The regional aquifer system, covering over 6,000 square kilometres, includes fractured Precambrian and Palaeozoic sedimentary rocks, and shallow Quaternary aquifers. As part of the study, a preliminary 3D numerical model has been developed which includes over 1.65 million elements. The model is being used for quantifying water balances and capture zones for major water supply wells, which will be used for resource vulnerability assessment and for geochemical system
