Abstract
This report, part of continuing glacial-geomorphological studies in the Red Deer River valley, Alberta, includes informatio on; (1) the recent history of the Pecto and Hector Glaciers; (2) comparisons with the Drummond Glacier, which was reported on previously; and (3) relations between climate and the recent retreat of the Drummond, Hector and Peyto Glaciers. The three glaciers have been retreating rather steadily since the 1880s. The recession pattern has been similar for the Peyto and Drummond, with an increasing rate of retreat until 1930-1940, followed by a decreasing rate to the present. Data on air temperature and stream discharge for July-August 1964 indicate a relationship between temperature and the melt of the Drummond. Other data indicate correlations between the recession of the three glaciers and longer term varaitions in temperature and precipitation, with an approximately 15 year time-lag in response of termini to climate.
