Abstract
This paper explores patterns and trends in flood magnitudes and relates the results to trends in the timing of flood events and changing temperature conditions. The study area is the west-central portion of Canada encompassing a total of 83 natural catchments from Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. The results showed that a greater portion of the catchments exhibit a significant trend in flood magnitude than would be expected to occur by chance. The trends exhibited appear to be related to changes in the temperature within the study area. Similar trends in the timing of flood events were seen for some, but not all, of the catchments with significant trends in flood magnitudes.
