Abstract
Describes periglacial features in Waterton Lakes (Alberta) and Glacier (Montana) national parks, and discusses use as surrogate indicators of Holocene climatic change. Three types are found: miniature sorted polygons, probably currently active and forming on gently sloping uplands; currently inactive alpine turf-banked terraces, which were probably active during most recent stade of neoglacial; and larger turf-banked terraces in locations near or slightly below present-day tree-line in well-sheltered Pleistocene cirques. First group is attributed to currently active frost-shattering above tree-line. Second and third groups are attributed to varying severities of gelifluction and frost creep during postglacial period
