Abstract
This map compilaton, generated from GIS database, of the Quaternary geology of the Laurentian Channel and the southwestern Grand Banks of Newfoundland extends from Laurentian Channel to Whale Deep. The map defines the boundaries of surficial geology units (formations) of Quaternary age. It was created from interpreted high resolution acoustic (Huntec) and seismic data (airgun) from the Geological Survey of Canada. Twenty six surficial sediment deposits were mapped . These maps provide an understanding of the geology of the continental shelf in their portrayal of sediment distribution in a conceptual model framework. This map also includes surficial and subsurface features which were interpreted from sidescan and acoustic profile data.
