Abstract
This report classifies the shorelines in the Conception Bay region of Newfoundland from Whiteway Bay to Cape Spear, based on a study of a 1981 videotape survey, aerial photo analysis, and site visits. Classification is based on geomorphological and sedimentological criteria. The report begins with a review of the regional setting, including geology, geomorphology, climate, vegetation, glacial history, and sea level history. It then describes the classification system used and briefly discusses anthropogenic modification of the shoreline. The main section describes each coastal classification zone and their characteristics. The last section summarizes the distribution of shore classes.
