Abstract
Exportation of dissolved matter from an Appalachian watershed, southern Quebec. Dissolved matter outputs areestimated from an eight year period of field observations in a small Appalachian watershed representative of the Eastern Townships physiographical conditions (rock-controlled residual hills and plateaus). Mass budgets are established for slope sequences above and below the slope inflexion zone. Total output from the downstream section is at least five times the upstream value under present heterogeneous vegetation cover, and would be three times larger if climax conditions were supposedly achieved; releases of Al and Fe are however larger on the upper sequence due to more intense podzolization. This difference which should lead to increasing elevationdifferences between the two sections of the slope results from dowstream characteristics such as higher weatherable mineral content, thicker surficial deposits, and longer soil humidification under rather agressive water conditions. The present situation is considered in the context of postglacial weathering evolution.
