Abstract

The use of manned submersibles allows for an opportunity to view directly seabed features which have only been detected by acoustic mapping. Since 1980 two submersible investigations have been carried out in areas over the Labrador Continental Shelf. A video tape of preliminary results is presented together with a review of past work. Emphasis is placed on the phenomenon of iceberg scouring and the effect of local hydrodynamic activity on the surficial sediments.
