Abstract

First detailed report of mechanical behaviour of this mudstone. Fissured and brecciated sample from ice-thrust shear zone behaves as lightly overconsolidated sediment in laboratory tests and shows non-brittle mode of shear deformation with maximum shear strength close to residual. Behaviour is due to weathering and glaciotectonic deformation, which have jointed, sheared, and remoulded mudstone, thus eliminating fabric formed by overconsolidation
