Abstract
The island barrier system of the Kouchibouguac National Park is one of the simplest among four similar systems in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. It consists of four elongated islands separated by three permanent narrows. The evolution of this system can be determined from the cartography of the displacement of the shoreline and the study of its dynamics. From multidata interpretation between 1930 and 1991 and historical maps from 1807 to 1913 it is possible to describe how this island barrier system has evolved during the past 180 yr.
