Abstract
A small (3.91 km2) forested watershed in the headwaters of the Nashwaak River in central New Brunswick was clearcut in late 1978 following a seven-year period of pre-treatment calibration against an adjacent untreated watershed. Preliminary analysis indicates that annual water yield was increased about 15 percent by the treatment, with most of the effect during the period of maximum evapotranspiration and soil moisture recharge. The spring runoff regime of the two watersheds was dramatically de-synchronized by the acceleration of snowmelt from the clearcut area. Storm runoff and peak flows during the summer period were substantially increased by the treatment.
