Abstract
The character of till deposits depends on the lithology of the material from which it is derived, on the poistion which it is transported within the glacier, and on the mode of deposition The methods and processes by which debris is introduced into glaciers and comminuted are discussed. Most debris is transported just above the ice base line, comprising 10 to 20% of the glacier. The grain size distribution is plottable according to probability laws. From field and laboratory investigations, the ablation-lodgement till concept justifies some modification. Till sheets comprise one or more layers of different types of till variously distributed, the sequence of layers being altered by shrinking and reconstitution. Till structure and grain size classification is suggested and other till properties are discussed.
