Abstract
Several ecological factors combine to make the amount and quality of winter range of great importance for the maintenance of Bighorn Sheep (Ovis canadensis) herds in the Province of Alberta, Canada. Increased resource development activities, particularly surface mining, have posed new problems of land-use and reclamation in the subalpine forest zone. Solutions to these problems are being sought in reclamation studies at Luscar, Alberta, with emphasis upon winter sheep-range as an important land-use objective. Hydro-seeding trials have facilitated the selection of promising plant species and varieties for revegetation of mined-land.
