Abstract
The University of Maine Ice Sheet Model (UMISM) accounts for ice deformation,themo-mechanical coupling, isostasy, basal water distribution, basal slidingand climatology. The workings of each of these components will be discussed. The ice dynamics, thermal, and water models take the form of conservationequations coupled with a constitutive relationships. The approach to derivingthese equations, as well a solution scheme based on the finite element method will be treated. Once the theoretical framework for the model is established, a range of model runs will be presented and discussed. These model runs demonstrate the interplay between various model components, in the context of northern hemisphere glaciation cycles. Additional information on model components and glaciation scenarios will be presented, based upon input from the audience.
