Abstract
Summit Lake, British Columbia, is dammed by Salmon Glacier and periodically drains catastrophically under the ice. In order to test for continuous leakage under the ice in the interval between the catastrophic discharges, fluorescent rhodamine dye was place in the lake. The dye was detected in the salmon river below the glacier on each of three separate tests, and it was concluded that a continuous leak existed. From estimates of the velocity of the water, it was concluded that the water flowed along a plane approximately 2 mm thick. An explanation of the emptyings is related to the glacier's water content
