Abstract
Thousands of years of glacial activity have sculpted a majestic landscape in the Canadian Rockies. The Columbia icefield and its associated outlet glaciers give us an excellent opportunity to make an assessment of the features of both glaciation and recent deglaciation. The Athabasca glacier and its valley, easily accessible from the spectacular Icefields Parkway, reveal a complex and dynamic landscape as the grip of ice is slowly released. The resultant landforms are examined in the context of their topographic setting.
