Abstract
In the western area of Oobloyah Valley, Ellesmere Island, N.W.T., Canada three periglacial drainage systems (broad and small drainage ways, solifluction lobes) have been researched. The main topics of this research were: - To find out their draining function for their catchment area in dependence of vegetation covering and the depth and relief of the underlaying permafrost table. - To calculate the duration of drainage after snow melt and the beginning of the thawing of the soil. - To study the dynamic of the displacement of sediment inside of these systems. Therefore we chose five representative investigation areas in which longitudinal and cross profiles were drilled. Additionally we determined depth and relief of the permafrost table and vegetation covering.
