Abstract
This paper describes some radiometric problems in remote-sensing imagery. Analysis methods are presented to correct or account for atmospheric, illumination, view-angle, and topographic effects prior to the application of image interpretation techniques such as reflectance mapping or automated classification. A key feature of some of these image corrections is the use of a digital elevation model (DEM) created from multispectral, stereoscopic System Probatoire d'Observation de la Terre (SPOT) High Resolution Visible (HRV) satellite imagery using an automatic DEM generation program. The accuracy and use of this model has been tested in automated terrain analysis of a moderate to high relief environment in southwestern Yukon, Canada, and is described here in the formulations for illumination and topographic corrections.
