Abstract
The object of this paper is to describe the major proglacial drainage features of northwest Banks Island .... Fieldwork undertaken in 1968 involved the field mapping and aneroid surveying of landforms in the vicinity of Ballast Brook, together with a brief examination of the surficial deposits. Subsequent air photo interpretation has extended the study area to include the extreme coastal regions around Bar Harbour and Cape Prince Alfred. Geologically, the area is underlain by unconsolidated sands and gravels of the Beaufort Formation, of late Tertiary age, which dip gently toward the northwest .... These beds are well exposed along Ballast Brook ... which, in itself, is a major physiographic feature of the area.... Inland, and away from the coast, the Beaufort Plain rises gently towards the southwest flowing streams .... The major landforms of the study area are mapped
