Abstract
A total of 65 papers are presented in this volume, the proceedings of the Fourth Permafrost Conference held in Calgary, Alberta, March 2-6, 1981. The conference was divided into seven sections under the following headings: 1. climate and permafrost, 2. permafrost and soils, 3. hydrology in permafrost regions, 4. geophysics and subsea permafrost, 5. gas hydrates and permafrost, 6. laboratory testing of frozen soils and 7. engineering applications in permafrost areas. Although the conference was conceived as a Canadian one, with emphasis placed upon Canadian permafrost research and experiences, contributions from the U.S., Sweden, Japan, France, Finland, West Germany, and the U.S.S.R. also appear
