Abstract
Large buried bedrock valleys occur in southern Ontario. Based on morphometric features, they were interpreted in the context of glacial and subglacial meltwater erosion. Subglacial meltwater tunnel valleys include those gorge-like bedrock valleys to the west and northwest of Kitchener and glacial troughs include the Dundas bedrock valley and Laurentian bedrock trough, as well as a trench-like bedrock depression beneath Lake Erie. The framework for an intensely sculpted bedrock surface by glaciers and subglacial meltwater differs from the previous view for simple glacial modification of a preglacial landscape.
