Abstract
Wind-forced seiche events have received limited focus in studies of deltaic processes. The Slave River Delta, located on the south shore of Great Slave Lake, NWT, is a unique environment to begin to address how seiche events affect deltaic growth. This presentation includes an historical analysis of seiche activity on Great Slave Lake. The seasonality, frequency and magnitude of seiche events on a north-south axis of the lake are quantified. Included in this analysis is a description of the wind characteristics that force seiche events. The morphology of the delta suggests response to seiche events within the delta environment is complex. Hydrologic data from distributaries in the delta illustrate some of the impacts seiche events have on the temporal and spatial aspects of seiche response within the delta. The potential impacts of seiche events on the development of the delta and future research possibilities are discussed.
