Abstract
Seismic refraction surveys using a multichannel seismograph and resistivity roundings using a dc portable unit were used to determine the depth of the permafrost table and the base of frozen ground. The depth of penetration achieved in delineating the bottom of permafrost depends on the resistivity contrasts between different layers and the structural and lithological complexities of the area. The resistivity penetration achieved in the Schefferville area of Quebec was the order of 80 m.
