Abstract
Flowslide scars exist in sensitive glaciomarine and, perhaps, glaciolacustrine terrain in broad, uplifted fjordal valleys in the Terrace-Kitimat and Nass River areas of northwestern British Columbia. They also exist in advancing phase glaciolacustrine deposits in infilled prehistoric valleys of the Taku River area. Large flowslides are no longer occurring (at least not from bank erosion triggers) because streams have incised into bedrock. In the Terrace-Kitimat area, a significant cluster of paleoflowsides are about 2000 to 3000 years old. Undisturbed shear strengths in the broad fjordal valleys were low (some lower than 10 kPa) and sensitivites were high. There is continuing potential for flowslides in all areas.
