Abstract
A three-dimensional moveable-bed, physical-hydraulic model study was proposed for engineering improvements at Martindale Pond, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, as part of an ecology system management plan. The model demonstrated that improvements to the flow regime along the rowing course will provide a number of benefits which include decreasing the potential for incoming sediment to be re-deposited on the floor of the course, decreasing local bank erosion, providing uniform flow distribution across the rowing lanes, and increasing the ecological quality of the pond. Enhancement of the ecosystem will improve environmental conditions for the wetland areas, improve water quality, increase the biodiversity of the pond ecosystem.
